Discover Frankfurt and surroundings by car

The lively city of Frankfurt is an absolute delight with top spots including the Iron Bridge which spans across the River Main connecting the city to the district of Sachsenhausen. Dating back to 1868, the Eiserner Steg (as it is locally known) is one of several bridges crossing the river.
If you want to enjoy splendid views across the city, you may also want to climb the Main Tower – the only skyscraper open to the public. The building is named after the river which flows through the city with an elevator shooting guests up to the viewing platform which stands at 650-feet high.
Other unforgettable places to visit include Goethe House – where Germany’s most famous writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, was born – as well as the Senckenberg Museum which is the largest museum of natural history in Germany. Here you’ll find everything from fossils to mummies as well as one of the museum’s most-loved features: the largest dinosaur skeleton in Europe.
While those longing to find out more about the region are sure to love the Museum District which is comprised of 12 different museums, those in need of some retail therapy can head to the pedestrian only shipping district of Zeil – also known as the Fifth Avenue of Germany.
Frankfurt will undoubtedly keep you entertained but for those with a passion for adventure, you’ll find Bonn, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Duisburg all to the north-west. Stuttgart is just over 200 kilometres to the south and how about continuing south-east to Munich?

Driving in Frankfurt
Throughout Frankfurt and the rest of Germany you will find that all major routes are well-maintained and well-signposted. As Germany is at the forefront of the automobile industry, the roads are packed with state-of-the-art vehicles which glide along the roads at a fast pace. Be careful not to break speed limits, however, as fines can be heavy.
Germany is also dotted with environmental zones – Frankfurt included. These are clearly signposted with the text “umwelt” encircled in red.
With regards to parking, leaving your car on the street can be really difficult. Spaces are limited making it easier to use one of the off-street parking garages in the city. Alternatively you can make use of the cheap Park and Ride services which operate from the outskirts of Frankfurt.
