I recommend printing coloring pages on bright white 32lb paper. The paper is bright and smooth for an enjoyable coloring experience. Do you remember being frustrated by crummy, low-quality coloring book pages as a child? Pages that looked yellow and had a rough, hard to color texture? Do yourself a favor and grab some surprisingly affordable premium paper. It makes coloring so much nicer.

Our family has three completely different, equally favorite sets of coloring tools:

• Gel pens
• Markers
• Crayons

Because there are a lot of crummy, but enticingly low-priced, gel pen sets available, I wrote an entire post on the best gel pens for coloring. These two are our top picks (my husband is actually the gel pen devotee):

My top pick for markers are Crayola Supertips. They're surprisingly affordable and fun for both adults and children. They're fairly washable, available in a variety of colors, and you can even use them for calligraphy practice!

Our favorite crayons, as voted on my by daughter, are Honeysticks natural beeswax crayons. The colors palette is limited, but the colors are rich and creamy. They're also completely taste-safe for little artists who can't always resist the temptation to taste their crayons.
